In this sharp comedy of modern manners, David and Catherine are negotiating the aftermath of their separation. This is an intimate, but intense play on relationships where the world is coming apart, where the past, which, is never brought up, weighs heavily on the present. Caught up in this new relationship, Catherine and David struggle to define who they are to each other and to their son. Frédéric Blanchette's sense of rythm is reminiscent of David Mamet, David Ives and Harold Pinter. His ellipctic and therefore seemingly disconnected but brilliant structure adds to the abruptness of the language, characterized by a compelling use of silent pauses and a sense of broken communication between the two ex-lovers.
A Théâtre la Seizième production. Written by Frédéric Blanchette. English translation: Christopher Campbell. Directed by Craig Holzschuh. With: Lyne Barnabé, Fabrice Grover and Gilles Poulin-Denis. Lighting design : Jeremy Baxter. Set and costume design : Drew Facey. Props: Susan Miyagishima. Sound design : Danielle Hébert. Surtitres : Emma Luna Davis. Stage manager : Noa Anatot. RENDEZ-VOUS
Oct 20-31 - before every performance of Le Périmètre
Studio 16 - 8 pm
Théâtre la Seizième has commissioned artist in residence Anita Rochon to create a 10 minute theatrical performance, Rendez-Vous, a "courte forme" to be presented before each performance of Le Périmètre. The Courte forme initiative is a mentoring project allowing emerging artists to create a full-scale project by creating, producing and presenting it to Théâtre la Seizième's mainstage audience. The initiative is also meant to diversify and enrich your theatrical experience, as an audience member, by presenting you with a "short play", very much like a short film at the movie theatre. By Kathleen Oliver. Directed by Anita Rochon. With: Christie Watson.
